The Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health (MSCCH) is a coalition of major medical societies representing a collective membership of over 700,000 physicians and health professionals. The organization's primary mission is to mobilize health voices for climate action. Through mobilization and empowerment efforts, the organization aims to engage health professionals in taking meaningful action to address the health impacts of climate.
As a Digital Communications Coordinator, I have played a key role in designing and implementing effective multichannel communication strategies with established KPIs across channels. This includes creating impactful visual messaging, producing engaging videos, and designing  annual reports while working with researchers at the Center of Climate Change Communication (Mason 4C). My responsibilities are centered around presenting climate change information in accessible and compelling formats to engage stakeholders. The ultimate goal is to foster understanding and encourage active involvement in addressing the challenges posed by climate change. Through these efforts, I enhance awareness and promote a proactive approach to tackling climate-related issues.
A major highlight of my role at the Medical Society Consortium was my involvement with a complete website redesign with WordPress. I was responsible for scouting for a design agency, develop a site map and working with the communication team to oversee the design process, review and approve redesigned webpages.
Several enhanced functionalities were incorporated into the website redesign project to improve the overall user experience and meet the organization's goals. The new website has enhanced the overall online presence and functionality with the following features:
1. User-Friendly Navigation: The revamped website features an intuitive and user-friendly navigation system, making it easier for visitors to find relevant information quickly. A well-defined site map ensured a logical and organized structure.
2. Responsive Design: The website was optimized for various devices, ensuring a seamless and consistent experience across desktops, tablets, and mobile phones. This responsive design aimed to cater to the diverse preferences of the audience.
3. Interactive Features: Integration of interactive elements, such as forms and maps, allowed for increased engagement with the audience. This facilitated a two-way communication between the Medical Society Consortium and its stakeholders.
4. Improved Content Management: WordPress as the robust content management system (CMS) was implemented to streamline the process of updating and maintaining website content. This allowed the organization to keep information current and relevant without significant technical hurdles.
5. Enhanced Search Capabilities: The website was equipped with advanced search functionalities, enabling users to locate specific information within the site easily. This was particularly valuable for users seeking detailed resources, articles, or specific topics.
6. Integration of Multimedia: To enrich the user experience, multimedia elements such as videos, infographics, and interactive graphics were strategically incorporated. This not only made the content more engaging but also helped convey complex information more effectively.
In my capacity at the Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health (MSCCH), a notable accomplishment has been the enhanced visual presentation of information. I've spearheaded the design of four annual reports and various scientific research reports. A significant collaboration involved partnering with the Wellcome Trust in London, UK, for the latest climate and health communication report, presented by top scientists at COP 28 in Dubai in November 2023, showcasing the global impact of our work.
My design approach is multifaceted, leveraging diverse tools within the Adobe Creative Suite. Adobe Photoshop serves as my go-to for precise image editing, ensuring visual elements meet the highest standards. Illustrator is instrumental in creating vector-based graphics, providing scalability and crispness for various applications. Additionally, InDesign is my choice for seamless page layout and the design of multi-page documents like annual reports, toolkits, and packets. This comprehensive approach allows me to employ specialized software for distinct aspects of the design process, resulting in a cohesive and visually impactful final product.
My design philosophy involves first understanding what information we want to communicate, identifying who will be receiving the information, and translating it into visually engaging formats that break down complex concepts with engaging visuals. I conduct deep research to select images that illustrate and align with key messages for emotional impact. This approach makes complex concepts more accessible, facilitating better understanding and communication of critical issues.
In support of a new membership campaign, I produced a video to inspire new member sign-ups. My objective was to engage potential participants with original and compelling content. Through creative strategies and visually captivating elements, I sought to convey the essence of the organization's mission and evoke a sense of urgency and importance, particularly for health professionals—the specific target audience.
The focal point of the video was to encourage healthcare professionals to actively embrace and contribute to the ongoing movement for climate action. By showcasing articulate talking heads captured with high-quality DSLR cameras, the visual narrative was designed to resonate with the intended audience, emphasizing the significance of their involvement in addressing climate-related challenges.
The post-production process involved skillful editing and production techniques using Adobe Premiere Pro. This allowed me to refine the footage, ensuring a polished and impactful presentation. The goal was not only to inform but also to create an emotional connection, motivating health professionals to become integral members of the organization and champions for environmental advocacy.
Through the fusion of creative storytelling, visually appealing content, and the utilization of professional-grade equipment and editing software, the video aimed to inspire action and encourage individuals to join the cause for a sustainable and climate-resilient future.
In my capacity as a digital communications coordinator, I leveraged my photography and editing skills with Adobe Lightroom to enhance the organization's annual meeting. Tasked with documenting the three-day conference, which brought together health professionals from across the nation, my responsibility was to capture candid moments that encapsulated the essence of the event.
One noteworthy aspect of my role was the emphasis on portraying the conference's theme of "From the Clinic to the Capitol." To visually articulate this theme, I strategically captured iconic moments featuring medical professionals assembled in front of the Capitol building. This imagery served as a powerful representation of the collective journey of health professionals from clinical practice to the broader sphere of policymaking and advocacy.
By documenting these moments, I aimed to provide a visual narrative of the annual meeting and convey the impact and significance of health professionals in climate change advocacy. Through my camera lens, I told a compelling story highlighting these professionals' unity, dedication, and shared purpose for climate change advocacy.
My role as a digital communications coordinator extended beyond traditional responsibilities, as I utilized my photography expertise to contribute to the organization's storytelling and visually convey the narrative of healthcare professionals working hard for climate-friendly policies.
